Are you one of those people that believes Valentine’s Day is simply a manufactured holiday started by Hallmark to sell more hokey cards? If you answered yes, stop reading this right now because this article is devoted to the lovers of love in all its flowery finery. I’m one of those people and if you are, too, I have some wonderful suggestions on how to spend this day with those you hold dear.
First up, let’s talk Galentine’s. For those of you who haven’t seen Parks and Rec, Galentine’s Day is a fictional day that has now caught on in popularity, celebrated on February 13th, and it’s a day for showing your best gal pals how much they mean to you. If this is your jam, here are some suggestions on where to go.
Sun, Feb 9th – The Amsden in Versailles is hosting a day of drink specials, free yoga & barre classes, a braid bar, photo booth and more from 11-5p.
Thurs, Feb 13th – Pirie Boutique in the Landsdowne Shoppes in Lex is having a sip-in-shop.
Thurs, Feb 13th – Floracliff Nature Sanctuary and J&H Lanmark invite you to take a hike with your gal pals and enjoy some much-needed time in the forest. You can even win some outdoor swag! Cost is $10.
Thurs, Feb 13 – KISS: End of the Road World Tour – If you’re a child of the 70’s, you won’t want to miss seeing these guys putting on their elaborate show. Grab your face paint, leathers, spike your hair, and get on down to Rupp Arena. Tickets still available.
For all the couples out there, we have what you are looking for, too.
Wise Bird Cider and Forage – This place opened up in the Distillery District in Lexington last year and it has such a cool vibe and welcoming atmosphere. They’re hosting a farm-to-table Valentine’s Dinner along with Forage Food Truck. A five-course meal with cider pairings will be just the thing for the pair of you!
The Kentucky Castle is having a series of special events the 13th, 14th and 15th. Take your queen and give her the royal treatment with dinner, fine wine and music.
Woodford Reserve is having a Feast of St. Valentine on the 14th and will include a distillery tour, beautifully plated meal with paired cocktails and live music.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Lexington Opera House is for those Shakespearean lovers. If you think this play by Shakespeare is boring, try thinking of it as good old-fashioned soap opera with love, jealousy, and mishaps. It will also help if you study the Spark Notes beforehand, so you know what the heck is going on.
“Casablanca” at the Kentucky Theater – Who doesn’t love a romantic movie? This classic stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman who play lovers who sacrifice their love for a higher purpose. One of the best movies ever made, in my opinion, and who can forget that line, “of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine”? Makes me swoon just thinking about it.
KY State Parks – No matter where you live in Kentucky, there is sure to be a state park nearby and they are more than likely planning a Valentine's Day celebration as well. You can check out a complete list of the parks and the events by clicking here.
Don’t run the risk of ending up broken-hearted this Valentine’s Day! Make your reservations now for one of these special offerings; a little effort goes a long way in showing your loved ones how much you care! Here’s to wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! Love, The Buds
