Article Written by Brooklyn Walters
Hi, I’m Brooklyn, the newest intern at Kentucky Taste Buds! I’m from Irvine, Kentucky, a beautiful Appalachian town that I’m proud to call home. In July, I married my high school sweetheart, who is also from Irvine. We have been making our temporary home in Lexington until we both graduate.
I am a junior at the University of Kentucky majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing, so as you can imagine, I love to write. Some other passions of mine include hiking, gardening, homemaking, and reading. Recently, I’ve also been drawn to natural living and cutting out toxins. It’s a slow process, but it is rewarding!
At UK, I am involved with Christian Student Fellowship and the new Lewis House program. (If you haven’t heard about it, Lewis House is a Christian program that encourages the community and students to grow in faith and academics.) Through these organizations, I have been able to find wonderful community and learn about theology and other concepts that deeply interest me.
Getting to know people and deepen my understanding of myriad topics has been my favorite part of studying here at UK. Telling people’s stories is something I love, so studying journalism and getting to know people through it while also getting to know new people here at college on a personal level has been wonderful.
Trough my writing, I hope to create a sense of friendship with you, give you recommendations that I think will make you smile, and talk about things that feel relatable and interesting to you.
I am thankful to be here at Taste Buds, and I look forward to writing more throughout this semester!
