A Luxury Staycation in Kentucky

By Tamara Schneider

Kentuckians are a blessed bunch of people; natural beauty abounds, and the people are warm and welcoming. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes that include mountains and valleys, beaches and lakes, rolling hills and gorgeous sunsets, it's not surprising that when it comes to a vacation, many of them forgo the long-distance travel to places like Florida and the West and opt to stay in Kentucky. If you're a Kentuckian and are looking for the ideal staycation, we have a luxury destination for you...Chateau Bourbon.

Chateau Bourbon is an independently owned, boutique bed and breakfast in the Norton Commons area of Louisville. It has been nationally recognized as one of Select Registry's Distinguished Inns of North America, meaning you will experience a level of cleanliness and personalized service that only a few properties in the country offer. The owners, John and Missy Hillock, are a vivacious couple with a flair for hospitality and have worked hard to create Chateau Bourbon from the ground up to be the only B&B on the Bourbon Trail and the #1 rated B&B in Kentucky by Trip Advisor; a place where you can not only stay and have a good time but have an unforgettable experience.

The first thing you'll notice upon arriving at Chateau Bourbon is the beautiful exterior including expansive front porch and the gas-lit lighting fixtures. The exterior looks like it was lifted off a postcard from Charleston. You may believe this is an old mansion, but in reality, this inn was constructed within recent history and designed by Missy and John to be a bed and breakfast. This means no frumpy Victorian furniture with lace doilies over the arms. The furnishings inside and out are comfortable, inviting, and bourbon-themed.

With names like "Angel's Share", "Stillhouse" and "Single Barrel", you know the language spoken here is bourbon. As you look around, there are bourbon touches everywhere, including the soap dispensers and framed artwork. The beds and linens are sumptuous, ensuring you the best possible night's rest. Other amenities include spa robes, a common area fridge stocked with snacks and drinks, high-speed internet, and an outdoor courtyard complete with couches, fire pit and swings.

Guests are also treated to a 3-course gourmet breakfast each morning that will leave you properly fueled for your daytime adventures. Egg souffle, anyone? Yogurt with homemade granola and drunk cherries (soaked in bourbon) tickle your fancy? It is definitely one of the highlights of your stay; the other highlight being the drink and dessert happy hour that is served in the evenings. Missy and John even have a fully stocked bourbon bar from which you can purchase pours.

The walkability of the neighborhood that surrounds Chateau Bourbon is another reason why this is the ideal staycation spot. Norton Commons is a community of idyllic homes and businesses that all beckon you to come and live the high life. There are boutiques for shopping, green spaces for relaxing, pools for swimming (Chateau Bourbon provides guests with day passes), and a slew of restaurants that you can visit as you stroll along the floral-flanked sidewalks. Everyone is friendly and inviting. The best part of staying in Norton Commons is your pillow-topped bed is only a short walk away.

A staycation at Chateau Bourbon is the perfect way to unwind, relax, and indulge in the best of Kentucky's hospitality. Whether you're a bourbon enthusiast, a foodie, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this stunning bed and breakfast has something for everyone. So why wait? Book your stay today and experience the ultimate Kentucky getaway.
