April 5th is a national holiday all foodies will love: National Deep Dish Pizza Day! How could anyone not be excited for a day that celebrates those ooey-gooey, deliciously hot slices covered with any toppings your heart desires? I know I am. There are tons, and I mean TONS of pizza spots out there. But one thing I love about Kentucky is all the amazing local restaurants that you can't find anywhere else. Each offer a different experience and a unique local twist that really makes it feel like the "old Kentucky home" we know and love . So, to make your hunt for the perfect location to grab a slice for Deep Dish Day, here's a list of the coolest pizza spots in Kentucky to try out!

When there's bourbon in the name, that has to be a good thing! Known for their Chicago-style slices, this neighborhood pizza parlor is ideal for picking up a deep-dish pie in a cozy setting. Ask for outdoor seating to enjoy the warm weather we've been having lately.

As one of my personal favorites, I can go on and on about how Goodfellas Pizzeria Distillery has everything you need to take you pizza-eating experience up a notch. With happy hour drink deals, lots of local brews and HUGE slices of pizza, this is a great option for some late night eats.

For a truly unique experience, I recommend Coals Artisan Pizza in Louisville. Their coal-fired, brick oven pizza style and wide range of toppings make for really great slices with a modern-day twist. They feature happy hour deals on pizza, appetizers, and drinks from 3PM to 6PM and again starting 1 hour before they close. It's a perfect place for sharing slices and laughs with friends and family.

If specialty pizzas are up your alley, then check out Lost River Pizza Co. Their menu offers a range of their signature flavor pizzas like Lil' Johnny's Brisket Pizza and The Funky Chicken, as well as many deep dish options like "mamma Mia" Meatball. There's also wings, salads and sandwiches to choose from. You're sure to find something to love.

Located on Main Street in Pikeville, Sliced is another location with yummy brick-oven style pizzas. Their southern twist on flavors welcomes the addition of some delicious shareable appetizers like Fried Green Tomatoes and Buffalo Chicken Dip and entrees like their Hot Benny Brown and Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes to their menu.

For a more traditional experience, choose Pagliai's Pizza. With overwhelmingly cheesy slices, and sweet Italian desserts, you're sure to find something to satisfy your taste buds. Plus, Pagliai's has an open-style kitchen, meaning you can see your pizza being made from your table!

Hopefully this list gave you a few ideas for new places to try out. Have fun chowing down on a fresh slice, while supporting a local restaurant. Happy National Deep Dish Day!
