Hi there! My name is Jenne Slaw and I am more than excited to be interning with the Buds for the Spring semester! I wanted to take the opportunity to share a little about myself and what I love about Kentucky!
I am a Georgia peach, from a city just north of Atlanta. I can be a bit goofy, which I'm sure you'll start to notice. But I never joke around about my schoolwork or my cheesecake. Growing up I developed an appreciation for art and creative expression. My favorite way to express myself creatively is through fashion. My style has a mix of vintage influences, like the cool pieces from the 80s I "borrow" from my mom's closet, and some fun urban influences from modern day.
I've spent the past 2 and a half years in Lexington at the amazing University of Kentucky, studying Integrated Strategic Communication and Spanish. Though I am an out-of-state student, Lexington has definitely become a second home for me. In my free time, you may find me hanging out around Downtown Lexington, Saul Good Restaurant & Pub is one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat, cheering on the Wildcats towards their next big win, out shopping around The Summit at Fritz Farm (I am a self-proclaimed shoe addict), or finding a new taco truck to try out. Is it obvious I love food?
My favorite things about Lexington and the surrounding Kentucky area are really what make being here so great. The blend of so many cultures and people of different backgrounds means there's always something new to try or learn. The strong sense of community (Wildcat fans count, too) makes it so easy to feel like I belong here. Last but not least, the overwhelming southern hospitality make it really feel like home. With so much kindness and generosity around, it's hard not want to be my best self.
I am beyond excited to start this new journey with Kentucky Taste Buds. I hope seeing Kentucky through my eyes, over the course of the next few months, will help you love it as much as I do.
