5, 4, 3, 2, 1...Happy New Year! Welcome to 2018! Are you still writing 2017 for the date? HaHa! As we are all recovering from our holiday hangover and trying to reenter reality once again, it's time to think about the changes we want to implement to make this year the best year ever! A quick Google search led me to the top new year's resolutions made by people in 2018.
Leigh and I are on board with making resolutions and we thought it would be fun to share them with you. After the binge eating we did last month, eating healthy and getting more exercise are definitely on our list. Some of our favorite places here in Lexington where you can find healthy meals is Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen, and they now have expanded to Louisville. Pop in and get one of their signature salads, delicious soups, and for a special treat, indulge with a homemade lemonade. For those of us with little time to cook, bloomkitchenlex.com is another option for helping us stay on track. You can order gluten-free, low carb and picky-eater meals that you simply take home, heat up and enjoy. Who says eating healthy can't be delicious?!
When it comes to exercise, Leigh and I are ready to try something new this year. Instead of the normal, boring pumping of iron and sweating it out on a treadmill, how about elevating our fitness game with some indoor climbing? (It has to be indoor at this time of year. Have you been outside? It's freezing! We're not that crazy!) There's a place here in Lexington where you can learn this exciting new sport and it's guaranteed to be great workout. LEF Climbing has several classes for new and experienced climbers. Once Leigh and I tap into our inner Spider-Man, we may take those skills out to the beauty of the Red River Gorge. It definitely would get your blood pumping!
And one of the other popular resolutions is, of course, to save more money. This is something we all need to do, but what a drag. Needing something easy to ensure success, I downloaded two apps that guarantee to make this resolution an easy one to keep: QuickBooks and Acorns. QuickBooks will give me an easy way to track mileage and receipts; Acorns will automatically send funds to a separate savings account and will invest for you. Easy peasy! Cutting expenses is another key component to saving, and we all know that eating out and traveling can be hard on your wallet. But we still want to have some fun, right? Fortunately, here in Kentucky we have 49 state parks that are an affordable way to enjoy the beauty of our state. Hiking, boating, horseback riding, wildlife tours, and golf are just some of the activities offered. Is your family adventurous? Try the Family Adventure Quest, a new program that will bring out the Amazing Racer in all of us. Added bonus, you can win prizes!
I know Leigh and I are anticipating our own grand adventures in 2018, and we resolve to have a blast doing them. Just to let you in on one of the things we have planned, we are looking forward to starting our own podcast in which we will highlight all that's good in Kentucky, interview special guests with ties to the Bluegrass state, and other surprises we have up our sleeves. All in all, we are excited about this new year and hope you are as well. Please remember to share with us your ideas and suggestions at www.kytastebuds.com or on our other social media platforms. We will make 2018 the best together!
